A few years ago I switched from the platinum power belt 270gr the the lighter aerolite 250gr for my muzzleloader. The first few deer I shot were all broadside and the exit showed good expansion. Then a had a fall and landed on my back and rifle. Walked into a steeper part of a ditch in the dark and bent the scope tube. Unnoticed I put the crosshairs on a big does chest and shot her thru the back hips. Again total penetration and large exit. Last week I shot a good thick 8 point at a slight angle head on. The bullet entered in the neck passed thru the ribcage beside the heart and travelled 30" to the offside area just infront of the back leg. It was stopped in the hide. The bullet lost the massive red poly tip yet retained the giant hollow point. The sides of the bullet show it bounced around inside the deer. While it killed the deer in short order it left me wondering why it didn't expand. I'm using a new loading jag that has a hollow cavity for loading pointed bullets. They fly true even though my gun isn't the most accurate.
Has anyone else recovered a powerbelt aerolite 250gr. Did it expand?
Maybe 2 50gr 777 pellets and the 90 yard shot dropped it below its threshold but they're advertised to expand at low velocity
Either way it was a 50 cal hole thru the chest and visibly shook the deer on impact so it worked
