Hey Nutz,

I am almost done my Club level restricted safety course at the Colby shooting club in Waterloo. I want to get into PPC and maybe IDPA, but I have no idea how to go about it. I heard you need to take a course for those first, but does someone have a link for that? Thanks!

Check out www.cpca-ppc.ca For PPC Preparation

Welcome to the PPC Fraternity! PPC competition and practice provides a great sport to enjoy with what can be called the "PPC Fraternity" that stretches from Coast to Coast to Coast courtesy both from CSSA and CPCA. The latters web page is shown above and I would urge you to check it out. It is the National body for PPC competitions across Canada together with the CSSA.
I have enjoyed PPC practices and competitions for 30 years.Essentially have I taken part with a number of clubs in Ontario and found a lot of friends on the firing lines.
First things first. Get a NRA PPC Rule Book from CSSA or CPCA PPC Rule Book.
I enjoy both Service Revolver and Duty Pistol in PPC. With a Colt Python or S&W N frame .38/357 a holster and a dozen speedloaders you can use the same rig to shoot PPC Service Revolver, IDPA, and IPSC Revolver. All three will teach you how to use your equipment and you will find that "Variety will be the spice of Life"..Another possibily is Duty Pistol where with a DA self loader, a retention holster, four mags and just one double flap mag holder you are "good to go".
Check out the Duty Pistol list on the CPCA web site. You will find that the Duty Pistol list shares lots of DA Production Division IPSC pistols as well.
Will look forward to seeing you on the PPC firing lines here in Ontario. For example the NCRRA at the Connaught Ranges has some great PPC Matches in May and Sept each year.

Hey guys, thanks for the info. I can't wait to get started! As soon as I get my club membership I'll be saving up for a Glock 22 so I can get out and do some PPC!

The earliest PPC course I know about is in the Spring, so I will have to wait for that. I'll probably have to wait until then for my ATT to go through anyways :p.

You can get an SKS for like $175 around K-W. If you are a member of Colby I can bring in a Russian Mosin Nagant to shoot bowling pins. It will put the SKS to shame!

Yeah Im joining Colby when I get some money...*sigh*... must be nice to have money : )

Then I need my Beretta 92FS, then depending on what I can get, an M1 Garand, SKS or Enfield : )

Why do I have the feeling I wont have money for a while :D

Ha, because it's Christmas season?

I'm pretty sure Colby's membership is pro-rated by the quarter, and the membership is renewed in April. So, with that said, technically membership should be at most 50% of the full price if we sign up before the end of the year, and 25% of the price in the new year. I think the membership is about $250 or so.

If money is an issue, aim for the SKS first. As Dave said, it's inexpensive to buy and for ammo. My buddy has one and it's a hoot to shoot! I have an Enfield, Mosin Nagant, Remington 870, .22 semi-auto pistol and a few .22 rifles. When I am low on cash I just plink around with the .22s.

Are you thinking of doing any shooting games like IDPA or IPSC?

I want realism too. That's why I want to try PPC first and maybe IDPA. Not really excited about IPSC.

hhahaaahahhahhhhahahahhah!! PPC is a great shooting discipline, but it is not any more "real" than IDPA or IPSC. When targets spring to life and start shooting at you,...than you will have your realism. :runaway: PPC at work is like our annual qualifications, you have no real time limit, you are not under pressure, and you only shoot at one distance at a time. You also don't shoot at moving targets in PPC/qualifications.

You should try all the shooting disciplines.

PPC is about a high score within a time limit. Like 12rds in 20 secs with a reload (you are ONLY allowed 6rds in the gun) standing unsupported @ 7 or 15 yds or metres. Or 24rds in 2min 45secs, from sitting, prone, LH-left barracade, RH right barracade, 6rds each.

I shot PPC first, then IPSC and also IDPA.
