So I picked up an 870 Marine Magnum a while back, and I've been thinking that some form of Practical or Action shotgun would be a lot of fun.

How would I go about a) finding a club (I'm about an hour from EOHC) and b) getting certified, etc? What would be the steps I'd have to take ot get into competition?

I currently have only a non-restricted PAL, and frankly handguns, while I've enjoyed trying them, don't really turn my crank. Would this seriously restrict my options?

Thanks...

My best guess is yes. From what I've seen (limited experience) shotgun is usually a side match. In western Qc. we have the Nasgun series and at St.Jacques there is a two gun event and sometimes a three gun. This year due to range closures we had 3-4 shotgun side matches. Great fun. If you're an hour from EOHC they are a very big club with nice ranges. Sad to say Ontario will allow you nicer shooting opportunities than Qc. They actually let you shoot outdoors there with the sun overhead (or rain during any competition) . You can try Cornwall or Grenville as well I've shot at both as well and are nice clubs.

You might want to check out IDPA I think they have a shotgun element as well.
