Prairie Dog hunting in Ontario

Looking for some hints on where to start. I live in SW Ontario want to stay west of Moronto. I've been told Rodney area is good for dogs, any other suggestions or info on which townships are having issue with these little rodents, where farmers are willing to give a couple guys some permission to thin out the heard.
When is the best time of year to hunt for them in the spring before the farmers plant or the fall when the crops are removed.

Any info would be appreciated!

Didn't know there was prairie dogs in Ontario. I shoot hundreds in South Dakota each September. Real fun! Like giant gophers they are.

I think you mean ground hogs.... you aren't going to find prairie dogs any where near Ontario.

"...Didn't know there was prairie dogs in Ontario..." There are no 'prairie dogs', gophers or Richardson's ground squirrels in Ontario. Ground hogs, yes.
Ground hogs are true hibernators and will soon be going to bed for the winter. Won't be back out until the Spring. Sometimes early March, depending on the weather. They don't like cold or wet weather. They generally don't live in cultivated fields. Pasture and along the edges of a culitvated field.
If you don't know anybody with land, go knock on some doors and politely ask some farmers. Don't take a firearm, wear cammouflage or go on Sunday. If the farmer/landowner says no, thank 'em and leave. Doesn't hurt to politely ask if they know anybody who might let you on their land.
Be advised that Essex County(and nearly all Counties West of Guelph) has rifle calibre restrictions. Nothing bigger than a .275 calibre. Yes, it is daft, but you can't turn in any direction, down this way, without there being some kind of building within a few hundred meters. A small game hunting licence is required too.
