What do folks think about the PRC surplus .308 ammo from TradeEx (which is actually stamped 7.62x51 on the spam cans) vs what Canada Ammo and Budget Shooter Supply are selling. CanAm bills it as Norinco 7.62x51 NATO and Budget Shooter calls it Norinco 7.62x51 new production. It all ships in spam cans, but the surplus from TradeEx is 520 rounds per can vs. 500 from the other two. It's all steel cased and copper washed and non-corrosive. Is it basically the same stuff, or is one much newer than the other? If so, does this make a difference? I know that I still have a bunch of Norinco that came from CanAm with my M305 in the green boxes, and it shoots really well. I just got a case from TradeEx, and I'm hoping that it shoots similarly well. Thoughts, anyone?

none of it is surplus, it is all new, sitting in a warehouse. Pulled for Syria, but not delivered. We in Canada are doing the good work for global peace by demilling it in our guns. ;)

With a sales pitch like that, everyone's gotta buy this ammo now. For the sake of world peace.

I just picked up my case of 7.62x51 from tradEx, Can't be new, the lot date is 3-16-93, base stamped cartridge case is (PRC plant 61) over date of 92...

Good stuff from what I can see, in the short term at least, with around 800 rounds of it through mein Norkein KampfGewehr.

Velocity spec's 762NATO right on the money on my chrony anyhow, 2804fps average 15 feet from muzzle. Accuracy in my stock Nork is 3-3.5"@100. Very reliable and not particularly dirty either like MFS.

As to how the velocity is obtained( powder charge wewight/powder type) I cannot comment in regards to the pressure curve, port pressure and dwell time,.. and it's roughness or lack there of on our M-14s operating system.

If anyone has any data on this bulk ammo and the interior ballistics produced , please share with us. This ammo is as close to NATO surplus, as I believe we are going to see here in Kanada:canadaFlag: for awhile.
