I mean what exactly is the definition of magazine? Are the bolt guns considered to have an "onboard" magazine? It's just a hole that holds bullets.

Also, if reloading is legal w/o a PAL, is buying bullets some other guy reloaded also legal? I'm guessing neither bullet is considered firearm ammo since the base pistol also isn't a firearm?

Buying ammunition (loaded cartridges) requires a PAL.
A prescribed or deemed antique is a firearm under the Criminal Code. Under the Firearms Act, deemed or prescribed antique firearms are exempted from some of the restrictions placed on modern firearms.

It's odd then that reloading doesn't.

Fair enough.

Antiques are Pre 1898 Single shot and over 8.3 mm caliber, only exception are Rimfires (Swiss Verterllis). All the rest are considered modern rifles.

What is the fastest shooting pre 1898 antique shotgun?

Is hope pointless?

I like Benelli tacticals if that helps.

A centerfire single shot qualifies only if pre-1898 and over 8.3mm bore.
Look at the Remington rolling blocks for sale at TradeEx. All are pre-1898. The ones in 12.7 or .50-70 qualify as antique; those in 8mm do not.

"double barrel rifle (if it exists) is considered antique"

Only if it above 8.3 mm and in a caliber no longer manufactured.

Tube mag? Seems dangerous unless they're all flat heads?

No 10/12/16/20/.410 bore shotgun is antique.
An antique 14ga double would fire two shots as fast as anything ever made.

Not really into single shot rifles. No good for a tactical or western shooting course.

Converted percussion revolvers do come up for sale. There are dealers who specialize in antique firearms. Whether an antique is going to be shootable is another question. $2000 is likely just going to be a down payment on one in fine condition. Making .44 Colt ammunition is more complicated than some other elderly cartridges.
