IAnything to do regarding Pre-64 model 70's always gets my interest so when I was offerred this what seemed like a normal standard-grade stock I took it home. Right away the barrel channel appeared much wider than my .300H&H gun which is pictured with it (red pad).
The mag inletting is for H&H length cartridge.
The barrel channel doesn't appear to have been simply hogged out for a custom barrel at some time...hmmmm.
The LOP is same as my rifle which wears a Winchester pad. Doesn't appear to have been refinished in any way.
My guess is it was born a .300H&H heavy barrel sporter (not a bull gun).
I've owned several Pre-64 .300H&H's, but this forend is much thicker.
Any suggestions?
