can anyone help with this question
I want to mount a bushnell elite 3200 50mm onto a model 70. Question I have is what bases and rings do I use because of the large bell on the elite

I had mounted my newer elite with a 40mm objective on my pre-64 to check for fit and I used Leupold standard bases and medium rings and it fit with good clearance everywhere. The low rings set the scope too low and I had contact between the bolt handle and ocular lens. I had good clearance between the bell and barrel. I'm not sure how a 50 would fit though. I'm guessing based off what I remember, there should be just enough clearance to fit the 50 with mediums. It would be very close. High rings would be a safe bet.

My guess would be that you might need high rings also.
On my pre-64s I will not mount a scope with a larger than 36 mm. bell, reason being the lower I can keep the scope helps me to maintain a better cheek weld on the stock thus making the rifle more comfortable to shoot accurately.
As a matter of fact my 30-06 wears a straight tube 3X leupold nice and low to the receiver... works for me.

leojlafrog...thanks for your info, shop had told me to use weaver mounts and leupold high rings. Was concerned about the high rings, but to obtain bolt clearance appears it was necessary

thanks Gerald

Why, I used weaver bases and medium to clear a Bushnell 3/9X40 on a Featherweight. I can always use low on my post 64's, and I found the ocular bell if it's large like on most modern scopes, there's not enough clearance for the bolt. .........just checked mine to confirm, and even with medium my bolts rubbing on my scope ocular bell. Oh well I guess it's high for me too! In that case the 3.5X10X50 will go on for Cotes. Good luck.
