Just got a used Japanese made BLR Pre 81 model. Super slick and I love it! I'm curious though what factory ammunition have people had the most success with in these types of rifles?

Every gun is different. You're just going to have to bite the bullet and try a few different loads to see what works best.

I've had a few of those pre-81 BLR's.

You're right, slick action, very accurate, and super handy guns.

I reloaded for all of mine, good accuracy was easy to achieve, you shouldn't have a problem with any decent factory stuff,

I'd look for a good all round 165 grain bullet for .308 myself.

Don't lose the clip, they are hard to find!

Blue box 150's might be worthy of a go too.
I second the, "don't lose the maggie thing".
And keep a scout out for a spare under a gazzillyun dollars.

...... and VERY expensive to replace. I've seen them listed for $200.

Hope the OP has a mag. None in the pics.

Yeah i got one. The idea was to get a spare mag, it's too bad there wasn't a heavy polymer remake of them around somewhere. I'll give 165 gr's in various makes a go and see what happens from there. On another topic, anyone know of a fairly inexpensive Peep or ghost ring sight that could be installed with bases or with the drilled holes?
