pre hunting season scouting trip

well, we went out today for a forest trail cruise (3 little trail vehicles). Had to pull the chainsaws out a number of times to clear the trails of fallen trees. Saw absolutely no wild life of any kind! Granted, the grass is tall and the leaves are still on. But, at least the trails are open and passable in area 1. Still got 2, 3, 4, & 5 to do, yet. Got some time yet, but as soon as it dries up the harvest will take away a lot of that time. The grouse that we usually see about this time of year, just aren't there or perhaps just not visible.

Yes I have wanted to get out and start scouting the hunting territory. The time feels right, but as you have found, it might be still too bushy in the woods. The itches will need to be scratched! Have you tried at all hunting inside the perimeter in the designated areas? Getting permission is about impossible.

no, we are quite aways outside the city near the forest lands. Got forests on three sides of us. Yeah, as soon as that cool Fall air hits, the itch gets strong! And good luck to you, too!
