Here is a quote from an article in the Gun Digest Book of the Hunting Rifle (author Jack Lewis)

" In late 1963 the last pre-64 Model 70's were assembled and shipped to storage and distribution. Serial numbered in the 500,000 range, these rifles reflect the poorest quality of the pre-64 versions."

Pretty general but I hope this helps you out.

When production of the Model 94 started up after the 64 change over, the numbers started at 2,900,000.

"Blue Book of Gun Values" 29th ed. notations:

Model 70 Winchester Serial Nos. ended with 581471 in 1963.

All post '64 Model 70's began with the Serial no. 700000.

At the end of 1964, Serial no. 740,599. The "G" prefix was introduced in 1969, ending the year at G941900. 1991 year-end was G2037985.

Ask enough "old farts" on here, you should be able to come up with a pretty good idea about something. Hope this helps !

For your post 64 there is not a list that will help you date your rifle to a single year of production. US reapeating arm was not very forthcoming when they owned Winchester, it would be nice if we could start a data base of serial # of post 64 guns to help us gunnutz types. Last night the first vote on scraping the registry happened!!! lets not stop writing to our representitives to get rid of this invation of privacy of law biding citizens. Were 1 step closer to get rid of this clusterf*@k:canadaFlag:
