what is the best scope going for a beginner precision shooter. I dont want to spend a fortune on a scope until i find out if I want to stay shooting at long range but I definately dont want to cheap out either.
Nikon buckmaster 6-18x40 for around $440 or Leupold vx11 6-18x40 for around $850.
Personnally I would pick the leupold , both have good glass but the leupold has a kick **s warranty if you ever needed it.
This is just my opinion and I am sure other people will post there's.
I am just entering the world of precision shooting as well. I am currently using a 6-24X40AO Bausch and Lomb (Bushnell) 4000. It has excellent quality glass decent magnification and very repeatable tracking. They can be found on the EE fairly regularly for 400ish dollars. The only drawbacks to this scope I can see is that it has limited internal adjustments for elevation and the target dot reticle is slightly larger than I would like. With a slightly tapered base I find it quite serviceable from 100m out to 500m.
