I am strongly considering getting a limbsaver recoil pad for my Tikka T-3 (30-06) and Stevens 200 (7mm rem mag.). I am concerned that a pre-fit pad might not have a "precision-fit"....

what are your thoughts?

I would also appreciate it, if someone could confirm the model number needed for a;

-Tikka T-3 (10112???)
-Stevens 200 (???)

I just got a precision fit pad for my 870. I still havent figured out what it's supposed to precisely fit... Surely not the buttstock!

Get a grind-to-fit no matter what it says.

Check out Limbsaver's website and print out their sizing sheets. Then disregard them. I think you may be SOL on the stevens - I'm guessing it's the same size as my 2004 Savage 11fxp, and I couldn't find one that fit. Even with the grind to fit ones, the screw holes wouldn't line up. But if you've got a store near you that stocks them, just bring you're recoil pad in with you - the packages can be opened for comparison. They also have slip on pads - which normally make a gun look terrible, but with a Stevens (or with my Savage) that doesn't matter too much.

Goose25,
I had a prefit limbsaver on my .338 T-3 Hunter, don't remember the #, but the one that fit the best was supposed to be for the older Tikka. Back to why I am replying, even thought the fit was good on my gun, I hated how sticky the pad was for quick mounting. The limbsaver does soak up recoil well, but for a hunting rifle I found it grabbed my clothes. I have since put on a grind to fit sporting clays decellerator, I think it is the best option out there.

Good luck, Homesteader

Real easy, just install , then grind, follow the line of the stock, do not dog leg like some folks have done in the past,LOL check another gun to see what I mean. If using a mouse grinder, use the red 60 grit till near where you wabt it, no pressure, let the weight of the mouse do the work, then go to 220 grit for a nice finish. As far as size get one that gives 1/2 top/bottom , or closer fit. Its easy when you get going on this. An a nice job can be done.

If the stock is finished, you can apply tape to protect it. Personally, I prefer to grind the pad to the scribe line off the stock. I use a stationary belt or disc sander. Just keep in mind: if the grinder TOUCHES the stock ONCE you've got a problem. Some of the tacky, grabby pads can be chilled before grinding. Slows things down, but cuts better.
