I'm looking to get into shotshell reloading.

I've been looking at roll crimp tools, and I've heard that the BPI roll crimp tool isn't very good, and the one from Precision Reloading (link) is much better.

The only issue is they will charge minimum $42 USD to ship internationally, and I would need to do it via wire transfer if they will even ship to Canada at all.

Does anyone have a Canadian source for this particular tool, or would I be fine with the BPI tool?

If the tool is something that you can't live without, go ahead and pay for the international shipping, it just means that the $26 tool will cost $100 by the time you pay all the fees. Besides, provided it works to your expectation, a year from now, you won't remember that you got hosed. Welcome to shooting!

What have you heard about the BPI crimper . I have one and if you spin it up to warm it up it works great. I load rubber buck shot and have ruined a few hulls but once I figured out that it needs to be warmed up it's fine. Are you using uncrimped hulls? or new ones?

Multiple crimping ridges in the tool improve crimping.
BPI tool only has one cross pin.
Precision reloading tool is better.
I get best results from an old fashioned hand turned tool.

Just that the results people were getting weren't that great. It's possible that these people were just beginners (sounds like there might be some skill involved in roll crimping) and didn't know what steps to take to make the crimper function well.

I thought about buying one of those russian/italian hand tools as well, but I would also like to have the option to do 3.5 in shells as well.
I know some people will say 3.5 isn't worth it, but I like having the option.

I bought mine from budget shooter supply. Not sure of brand. It has 1 cross pin. Oil the hull lightly and let it spin on the hull rim for 20 seconds to warm it then add pressure to the drill. I use a cordless dewalt because im to lazy to go my shop to use the drill press

When I first started using the BPI crimper I messed up quite a few hulls, once I figured out that warming it up was what was needed it worked as it was supposed to.
