I was all ready to book a spring course in Washington State, nice little 'vacation' for myself after a really miserable year at work. I have a build rifle close to finishing over Christmas, so too is the reloading, and then I find out as I am filling in the form.......open to US residents only !!

It appears that the Department of State is terrified that a non US citizen may develop a skill with a rifle?

So, is there anywhere in BC / Alta / central Canada that holds a similar course to this? http://ccptraining.com/?page_id=7

All information gratefully received.

Shadow Force in Alberta runs similar course the guys who took them give great reviews and i could see improvement on the paper. One Shot Tactical runs some too, but not sure if they'll have any in western/central part of the country any time soon they are from Ontario but as far as i know also do great training.

I called Magpul yesterday to pre order the "The Art of the Precision Rifle" and they will not ship outside the USA for fear we may use it against them as well.

State Department has it on the restricted to export list as well.

Soooooo ~ my sister-inlaw in Ohio is expecting her copy before she visits us for christmas....

w:h:

I may have to make a few safety back up coppies.

There are other schools that will happily admit law-abiding Canadians. Depending upon the curriculum of the particular course, you might require a (training) waiver from the U.S. Dept. of State (and/or DFAIT), which might add some cost and some delay, but it can be done. Other courses will not require the waiver.

Check with Thunder Ranch, Gunsite, Rifles Only, Grey Group, and the U.S. Training Center.

I'm assuming you were looking at the HART course? If so that's a bummer that sounds like an awesome course. I would highy recommend Tactical Response, I believe they take Canadian citizens and they offer top notch courses, they are in Camden Tenessee though but you might want to give them a call

Precision Rifle Course.

Thanks for the pointers, I still cannot believe that is not one in BC that is well known.

I'll let you kiow how I get on with Alberta Tactical.

F-Class

This spring on April 7 the Mission and District gun club will be holding a
F-Class and Target Rifle shooting clinic its a good clinic to attend for anyone thats interested in F-Class / long distance shooting , there is a classroom session in the morning and range shooting in the afternoon, followed by the first F-Class match of the year on April 15 , Class space will be limited so register early for a spot , there will also be an Advanced Reloading clinic held at our club this spring ,On Feburary25 there will also be a Basic reloading course on Feburary11 Th, i believe current members get first preference in the relaoding course's.Check out the 2012 calander for this years F-Class events / club 300 .

As a one-off way to gain an experience and learn a reasonable amount of knowledge in the time taken, taking a professionally offered course could be worthwhile.

If you are interested in learning the most you possibly can learn, or in mastering precision shooting, you can't get that from a course. Perhaps the best and most cost effective way would be to join your provincial rifle association (e.g. the B.C. Rifle Association) and take up target shooting. You'll learn a lot in your first month and first year of shooting, and you will still be learning stuff after several years. You'll have essentially unlimited free consultation with some of the best shooters in Canada, ones who are good enough to shoot at world-level competitions.

If you want to consider Ontario, I took the Milcun 5 day rifle course last year. They are located about 2 hours north of Toronto, on their own range at Kinmount (near Minden, Haliburton etc). Keith, Linda and course are excellent. Range out to 700 yards (I believe the range is now extended to 1000 or so). I took my own 223 bolt and stayed with the 308's to half that distance. Highly recommended.

Precision Rifle Course.

This looks very much like the course in Washington State. I like the idea of spending 3-5 days in the field, with nothing else but concentrating on taking the shot.

Going to the range / out in the field is good, but I do that already. What I am looking for is some constructive observations from a good instructor, and a group of other folk to learn with and from too. I reckon a 5 day course would be as good as a year of range and field? I'd like to find out anyway. Its a shame that the nearest replacement appears to possibly be Ontario, but its doable.

If you come out to Bantario, go see the fine people at Milcun. www.milcun.com

They put on a great course for precision shooting, keep your money in Canada, and get world class instruction too. :sniper:
