Looking for experienced opinions of excellent gunsmiths who worked on match barrel installs. Also does a smith have to have one of those Pratt & Whitney machines to do a quality install, what is involved other than thread, chamber, trim and crown. Western Canada preferable.

The Pratt and Whitney gun drill and rifling machines are strictly for MAKING the rifle barrel. There are VERY few gunsmiths that make their own barrels, so to answer the question, no. A good quality lathe and more importantly a talented individual who knows how to use is the main criteria.
There are several "precision" riflesmiths in Canada, as in all things there are those who specilaty is 1 style or another.
We build very precise tactical rifles as that is my passion, some others are better at BR type rifles, or F class, as that is their's , so you should figure out what type of rifle you want then try and find the right person for that job.

Mcphee in Kamloops has a pratt barrel machine and does a lot of work for the f class shooters and has an excellent reputation as a Smith, Also several of the guys that i shoot with have had their Tac rifles built by ATRS , with excellent results.

McPhee...pfffft...hate his work.....don't bother sending stuff to him.
Had him build 3 rifles for me so far and everyone of them shoots teeny tiny groups....one rifle has won every comp I entered in BC this past year including the BC Provincials.....what a waste of money that was.
If you send him YOUR stuff....all it does is back-up the work that I need done.
