I am in the process of sourcing a precision shooting rig (in .223) for some target/varmint fun out to maybe 300-400 yards. So as the rifle begins to come together I start thinking about glass - this is where I am hoping you experts can help. I am hoping you can maybe direct me towards 2 or 3 options that I should actually track down and look through. My initial budget is something in the $350 neighbourhood (+/- $100). Correct me if I am off but I was thinking is around 5-15x40 or 4-14x50 would be appropriate for my purposes. So any recommendations as to models that give me the most bang for my buck.....thanks

In glass, you get what you pay for........for long range precision shooting, a max. budget of $450 is light.......

To get in the game, go with Jerry's suggestion..........then upgrade after you get a feel for it and know where you want to go with your rig......

In the Precision arena most guys are spending 2K+ on optics alone...........

he says 300 to 400 Varmint and target use, Mystic's advise is right on. I don't think I have ever seen a 2K plus scope in use in F class that I can recall, or in Benchrest for that matter.

"Tactical" shooters are perhaps who Skullboy is refering to as "Precision" arena shooters?

Thanks for the opinions. I will see if I can track down an Elite 4200 from one of the CGN affiliates and have a look-through, cheers!
