Both will do it effectively and accurately to 400yrds if thats what you want to limit your range to, they will go further. Answer would be which fits you best. Do you like the accu-trigger, some love it others hate it. The wife shoots clay pigeons with here Savage 10FP at 500yrds you will have no problems with either rifle.

I have the 10FP (tupperware stock). Love the accutrigger. Loads of people will say the Savage is better out of the box. Choate stock is coming in the mail. I'll let you know how it works out when it comes.

I built up a Steven's and it has a Choate varminter, very strong but heavy. The pistol grip fits perfectly, unlike the hs precision on the remmy which is terrible prone and poor sitting.

The Choate was never intended to shot on bags or rests. It has flat bottoms with serrations which doesn't go good with rests and bags to put it politely., but at least they run almost parallel to the bore. I use a bi-pod on the front and on the buttstock, I tried a piece of 1.25" dowel to help ride the bag. It looks like crap but works. I'll have to make some sort piece that looks like it could be a factory bag adaptor. The hi cheek piece adaptor that comes with it wasn't hi enough for me so I put in a couple of spacers under it, now its the perfect height. Also, the bi-pod adaptor for the forestock wasn't good enough for me so I put in a custom stud.

I really like the stock now, didn't think I would though, its the grip I like. Not that Brownell's can sell it to you but their gunsmith/dealer/poor Canadian SOB price for one is $135US.

thanks...I will....
can tell you now: this rifle shoots under 1" at 100m with Winchester white and red box ammo, 45, 50 and 55gr.
and about .5" with Remington Accutip Boattail 55gr. it`s great :)
could not wait and went to the range right after shop :)))

The Choate has a rail in the forestock and an adaptor with a speed nut to tighten it in place. The bi-pod attaches to the sling stud on that rail adaptor and doesn't touch the stock at all. It was designed for a quick release bi-pod, police tactical I suppose.

Problem is, the Harris only touches the adaptor, a 3/8" ish wide rail, and can easily rock side to side because there isn't enough base to support that direction of movement.

I took out one of the forestock rail mounting screws and installed a bolt that had lots of shank protruding out the bottom. Drilled a hole in the shank and profiled it like a sling stud then blued it so the Harris could grab it like normal.

Owned both styles in .308 & the only complaint that I have is with the Savage for lack of aftermarket options, totally aesthetic & both are exellent systems.
