Hi All,
I've been researching requirements for long range precision target shooting. It's a little overwhelming so I thought I would ask you what is necessary to shoot out to 1000yds.
So far I've came across information on the following:

Modular data book
Ballistics cards ( or calculator )
Mildot master
Whiz wheel
Field DA compensator ( or Kestrel meter that calculates DA )
Wrist coach
Shooting bags
Rifle bag / shooting mat

What are the most important pieces of equipment you use to allow you to shoot long range both for fun and in matches??

Thanks for any help!

To hit a 1000yds all you need is
ballistic calculator
good ammo and good data on your ammo
Solid bipod like a Harris
Good rear bag.
A shooting mat is nice to have.

That will get you started.

Depends on what you are looking for. Before I had anything many moons ago, all I did was walk shots into the target and write it down. Then next time I was pretty close.
You can make it as simple or complex as you wish!

Lots of good ballistic calculators online. I use JBM. Print out a chart for your load at an estimated velocity. As you work out to your maximum distance, make corrections to your chart based on what you're seeing on paper. You can go crazy with gadgets but ultimately all you need is decent scope, a load that matches your rifle and a solid rest. You don't need much to get to 1000

One of the best things anyone who wants to learn to shoot long range can do is contact your provincial rifle association. The PRAs are full of helpful people that will bend over backwards to help and advise anyone that shows interest and commitment.

I sent the ORA a message a few days ago. Haven't heard anything back yet.

The very best thing for extreme range accuracy I've found is a VERY good scale and meticulous handloading.

Add a good rifle. That's all you NEED.

All that other stuff is great.

If you have and questions about how an F-Class match is run or the different divisions feel free to PM me. ;)
