What are the preferred powders for loading 63 to 75 grain loads in the AR rifles? Also are you using regular or small base dies?

I have many manuels but they only list data for the 1-14" twist hunting rifles and I want to get into loading for the AR.

Thanks for any assistance that you can provide.

Regular fully lenght dies work fine for the NATO 5.56mm chamber.

Varget is the powder to use for 69gr and up bullets. What I use anyway.

I tried 68 grain bullets for the first time this weekend (just bouaght a new Tikka with am 8" twist). I used RL 7 because that was the only powder I had in reloading data for that was also already in my cupboard.

I was reasonably happy with the accuracy. I consistently shot 5 shot goups with every shot touching. Groups size at 50 yds was something like .5" for 5 shots. I wasn't happy with the rest i was using and I'm convinced the rifle and ammo were capable of better groups.

I'll be trying some other powders and shooting some 100 and 200 yd groups in the coming months.

The 223Rem is not too fussy. Accurate powders are BLC-2, H335, H4895, IMR4895, Varget, WC846, WC845, WC835, AA2520 to name just a few. My favourite powder is Varget, followed by H335 and WC845 :D

I use normal dies for bolt and semiauto,, and I think pretty well everyone else does too.

Varget, Win748, H4895 or IMR4895 are all good powders. My favourite is R15 for the Hornady 68/75 and the Sierra 69/77.
