Press ram lube

Today it was 0-20 Vis Amsoil. I use synthetic motor oil on my guns too, I drip drain the empty bottles from whatever got its oil changed first after the bottle is empty. Last time it was O-40 synthetic ATV oil with Arctic Cat on the label. Next time it’ll be something else.

More important than what oil you use is to spray out the accumulated crud, which includes ground glass from the primer residue. That stuff mixes with the oil to make a grinding paste. Get it out every once in awhile with brake cleaner. Remember the links, its harder on those.

My tin of Imperial Sizing Die Wax is always open and next to my Rock Chucker. I take a smear with my finger occasionally and apply it to the ram.... works as well as any other lube......

OP, stay away from "OIL"

This is just my opinion of course, but unless you wipe that stuff off the ram, it will become sticky, collect dust from primer removal, etc.

Canadian Tire and other places sell small cans of spray on GRAPHITE. This stuff is easily applied, protects the ram and doesn't accumulate in the frame walls which the ram moves up and down though.

One very small can will last a lifetime, depending on how much you reload. The last can I purchased was close to ten years ago and I reload a lot, in comparison to most.

Hey! May be a bit of a far out question but what does everyone use for lube on your press ram. Currently running a Lyman 8 turret press with the off spritz of wd40 and she’s starting to get dry again any insight is appreciated!
Thanks J.

Whatever is lying around when I realize I need it. Hoppes, white grease, gun oil, silicone oil. The trick is to use VERY little or it'll get gummed up with residue quickly.

I run Dillons and per the manual have always used 30W oil. A litre goes a very long way!!!
I use a q-tip and rub it on the ram. Cleanup is very easy.. just a quick wipe with a shop rag and does not collect dirt as bad as you would think it might.
