Considering getting one in 45-70.

I have a Marlin 95 which is rated for Level 2 loads, the Ruger #1 is rated for Level 3 loads.

Can a Sharps take a Level 3 smokeless powder load ?

The Shilo Sharps is capable of any load the Ruger is. My 45-110 Long Range Express has digested 500 gn jacketed loads at a chronographed 2200 fps. Case capacity and pressure virtually identicle to 458 Lott, cases popped out like a 15,000 PSI black powder load.

I've always stuck with the trapdoor loads in my Pedersoli because I was unsure of the strength of the action, modern or not. Interesting to see the Shiloh being stronger than I thought

There is speculation that the italians use a different steel for their sharps then Shiloh. The shilohs are 4140 and no one realy knows what the italian ones are made of but some are thinking 8620.
