Just trying a few different things to cure my barrel droop on my 10/22. Don't want to shim anything, Burris rings will be last resort.

Where can I get/what could I use to make a pressure pad? Where should it be placed? Right now I am thinking of putting it as close to the end of the barrel channel as possible (towards the gun muzzle)

I have some foam tape kicking around the house right now. It is nice and padded, around 2-3 mm thick. Would this be a good thing to use? I could take pics of the tape if needed?

Oh, barrel is a bull one and is not floated .

Suggestions?

I would use elastic bands around the end of the forend. Enough to cause quite a bit of upward preasure. Cut off the loose ends after. I would free float it but at the very end of the stock leave it so you can put the elastic band in.

I would bed the barrel out 2" from the action. To avoid barrel droop during
the bedding process, clamp the stock in a vertical position for assembly.
Personaly I choose not to bed because then any variation in the tightness
of the main screw will result in the barrel pointing in a different direction.
Even a change in humidity can cause movement of the fore end.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've never had a 10/22 ...but can't imagine the barrel "droops" ??? Typically, free floating the barrel is a good thing, but as mentioned previously, you may want to bed the barrel for an inch or so in front of the action to give it a bit of supprt. It you want to keep pressure under the barrel, you amy want to sand out the barrel channel so the barrel is free floated and then "neutral bed" it close to the forestock end. Mark the screw position so the torque remains constant, then add shims (alum pop can strips) until you find the sweet spot.

Thanks for the reply's. I just ordered the Volquartsen Bedding Kit. I am going to try using only the pressure pad that comes with it to see if that helps. I am not a handy man and I don't want to try someting I am not good at doing on my custom stock that took 6 months to get here.:D :D
