Hey all .

My application was recieved by the authorities on may 28th and , according to their online tracking , I was approved two days ago :D

I was reading about other members experiences with the process and , unlike me , some had been contacted and interviewed .

I was never contacted and , as far as I know , neither we're my references .

Does anyone know what , exactly , the process involves on the end of the authorities ? I.e. do they check more carefully just at random or would there be some other reasons that my application just whizzed through (as some do) , while others seem to be waiting much longer ? Aside from the obvious things like applications improperly or not completed etc , what , if anything denotes an application that gets held up so darn long ?

I'm certainly not complaining and , in fact , was pleasantly surprised at the speed of the process !

Just interested in the process , and the memberships thoughts on this .
Cheers

PAL only I take it...

Ohhhh .... Thank you for that . Mine is in fact just the PAL , not RPAL . That makes sense .
Checking mail EVERY day and the day it comes , I'm off to purchase my first ! Feel like a kid a few days before Christmas lol . Glad I decided to apply in stages as , if I had to wait for the RPAL right now I'd be getting too impatient by the time it finally came !

Will be purchasing my safety gear in the next few days though and joining the local range .
Any other things you seasoned shooters can recommend I purchase prior to heading to the range would be much appreciated . It's been a long while since I was shooting and usually everything was supplied for me , so now I'd like to be as prepared as possible .

I've settled on the Ruger SR22 for my first rifle .

i know how that is. I'm still about 4 weeks away from mine. Working on perscription ballistic glasses and ear protection. Already know what and where i'm buying my first rifle.

SR22 is a fun plinker rifle. Too bad the lawyer mandated trigger kills the finger and accuracy so be sure to polish it or get an aftermarket trigger group (Timney, Volquartsen, ...)

Seasoned I'm not, but you'll need a stapler.

Congrats on that quick approval, too bad about the postal strike.

:D

Thanks for the input !
Burnaby, I've been reading up on that gun and noticed several owners who HAD changed the triggers . Your post tells me WHY they did that . Excellent advice and I am going to do just that !
9X19p . Wow , that's one I would have totally missed ! I had targets on my list but no stapler . Yes , I would have been standing out there going " okay , now to put this nice target up and .....oh, crap " . Lol . Thanks , that's NOW on the list !

Keep 'em coming , I really appreciate it

A set of binoculars (or a spotting scope, if you have one) would be a good idea as well - you'll be better able to see your hits on the target without waiting for the range to be made safe followed by a long walk!

Binoculars ,right !
Thank you !
:D

I've heard that the cci mini mags are good in this little automatic and that's what I'm planning on using .....unless any of you have better suggestions ?

You all are a big help !

Get yourself a nice big plastic tool box with good quality metal clasps and a big handle. You can keep things like cleaning bits, cleaner, gun oils, snap caps, and basic tools in the upper tray, and you can put ammo and rags in the bottom. Toss in a few extra packs of foamy earplugs in there too.

Thanks Anyad , that's good . Going to Walmart as I saw some cheap toolboxes there and all of mine are currently full of tools . I've even thought of JUST using the foamies for hearing protection as , after trying on a few of the bigger ones I just find them really uncomfortable to wear . I've worn those foam ones for years at work and they don't bother me much , plus I would think they are substantial enough for the levels of .22 firing on outdoor ranges .

:D
