A friend wants to sell his Spanish cavalry carbine but doesn't know what it is worth, can anyone help?
It is marked "Fabrica Armes Oviedo, 1899". It is in 7 x 57 caliber. It has full wood right to the muzzle, straight grip, left side sling mounts and saddle ring. All serial numbers match, bore is very good as is the finish on the metal. The stock has been sanded and refinished at some point, likely at an arsenal judging by the machine sanding marks. There are no cracks in the stock, one small repair at back of upper hand guard, likely an arsenal repair. Due to sanding the butt plate is about .010" proud and the bottom metal is about 1/6" proud. Someone has dropped a bit of solder on the front sight blade to raise it a bit and also filed the rear notch to a bit wider and deeper shape than original. Overall I would say very good condition. It will come with 7 X 57 dies.
So, can anyone give me at least a general idea of value?
