What is the following worth?
Have the opportunity to pick up an Arisaka Type 97
Bore is excellent, shiney, really excellent rifling.
Has the Mum intact, noisey bolt cover, wierd rear sight with what looks to be fold out wings? Serial numbers match form what I can see. Wood is a little dinged up, but no cracks, and the metal appeared to be in excellent shape.
I believe it is 6.5mm. I don't know much about Japanese rifles so any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'll post some pictures if I get it.

With the AA wings I think it would be a Type 99, 7.7mm. The most common 6.5 is the Type 38; don't think they had the AA provision.
Japanese rifles are not all that common in Canada, and it sounds as if this one is in much better shape than most.

The intact mum is a premium item. Obviously taken frem a jap who no longer needed it rather than a "help yourself to a souvenier" from surrendered rifles.

IIRC the T97 was a 6.5 mm sniper rilfle on the T38 action. What you are describing is a T99 7.7mm.

Gooo!

Please, jump on it!
Do not let this pass under your nose!
An original Arisaka with the bolt cover still attached is a rarity, the troops used to "lose" them very fast because of the tell-tale clattering.
A nice bore is always desirable and the intact mum is also a premium.
What are you doing here, reading this?!! :runaway: go get it THEN take pics and make us turn green with envy like Kermit the Frog.
RRRribbitt!
PP.:D

Thanks for all your replies.
I have purchased the rifle and will post some pictures this weekend.

Pictures and complete description now posted in "April Purchases"
