A friend of mine lost his father this past summer and he asked me to stop by and see his Mom about some guns that she still has in the house so I popped by and took a look.

I found out that she had just sold a Tikka .300 WinMag with a Leupold Vari-X III scope on it for $500, not knowing at all what it was worth. The low-life scum sucker that stopped by was an alleged "friend of the late husband" who had initially offered her $150 for the combo but who eventually got up to $500 and she let it go "because Gino used to hunt with him" - what a POS!!!

Anyhow, I took a look at the longguns (Savage 24, Rem Nylon 66 (like new), sporterized #4Mk1, and a fairly nice Ugartachea 20 ga SxS that hat obviously not been babied at all and showed evicdence of being hunted hard), and then she stated that she had a handgun in her bedroom and asked me if I would look at that too. I waited in the kitchen while she retrieved it, and upon her return she had a Beretta box in her hands - this thing looks like it has never been fired. No a mark, scratch, blemish - nothing!!! The two mags with it were loaded with CIL Long Rifles and the remainder of a box were in the pistol box with a price tage that read _______ Hardware and the price $0.94...

I quite frankly don't know what it is worth but would think in the $250-300 range especially considering the condition that it is in. I told her that I would do some research and get back to her with an offer as I don't think I'll ever find one in that condition again.

I don't want to rip anyone off and am more than willing to pay fair market value - am I out of line price-wise??

I paid $450 for my minty Model 71 with original box, papers and one mag ~ 15 years ago. They were scarce where I'm at back then & when one came up you paid the asking price. The Model 71 is virtually the same pistol at the Model 70 but with the 3.5" barrel and by today's standards is a 12(6) prohib. However, I have never regretted buying it & the seller has offered to buy it back for $450 on more than one occasion since then, too.

Model 71 [serial number edited out]

$250-$350 for the one you are looking at is a fair price.

Is it restricted or a 12(6) prohib?

It is 12(6) and has a 3.5" barrel. I have never seen any other configuration, and I think I'm going to grab it. I just talked to my co-worker and asked him to ask his Mom if she'd take $400 for it...

Too brave for me.

When those nasty Liberals created the different classes of prohibited and restricted firearms, the market for Prohibs has seen some changes. And not for the better.
For my money, and I'm not alone in this opinion, persons who have the Liberal gov'ts permission to transfer prohibited handguns, prohibited class handguns are worth C$100.00 to C$400.00. A really nice one MIGHT be worth the 400 if you really have to have it. More like most of the prohibited class hanguns are worth C100-200 tops.
As for your Beretta model 71, since it is a prohibited class firearm, to me, it would not really be desirable, so in order to attract my dollars, I might pay
C$150.00 if it is exceptional, I liked it, AND I wanted it. Maybe I'm wrong but prohibited class firearms are not entirely desireable.

Those little Berettas are cool guns. I have a restricted version with a longer barrel. Definately buy it.
