Price check: GECO hammer 12 gauge

Southern NB, aka "Canada's Bible Belt"
Appears to be in 2 3/4 12 gauge. Several cracks in the stock, which has a peeling finish. Metal is scabby in parts but probably cleanable. Action seems to work OK. Any ideas what it is


Edit: this was one of a bunch of guns an old (and now dead) guy asked us to sell for him. Now on the EE

Yes, your price is in line. My $300.00 is max I would pay if I really wanted it. I have gotten guns off of Tradeex. I don't put much faith in Tradeex guns as far as setting value. A lot of those guns on tradeex have been rode hard and put away wet and need or should have work done. They must have just gotten a new boat load in of well used shotguns. Also need to compare makes. Geco's are German with better internal quality compared to some.
 
Unless you're looking for a project, I wouldn't buy that gun. That being said, there's definitely a project in there, if that's what you're after. The stock cracks are the deal-breaker for me. Individually, they're no big deal; could be fixed during an overall stock refinish. But together, they amount to complete degeneration of the fitted end of the stock. Somebody sat on that poor gun.

Or fell over with it, or something.

The cracks are indeed looking like they're a problem.
 
GECO (originally Gustav Genschow) had contractors build guns for their brand name. You will find Spanish and Belgian guns marked GECO.
Buy based on the quality and condition of the gun, not the name.
This one seems to be lacking condition. Spend more, buy better.
