Price Check, M1 Carbine

I have a line on an M1 Carbine that saw service in WW2.
It is a shooter with a shiny bore, minimal surface rust that needs cleaning.
comes with a 5 round clip and a box of .30

The guy is asking $400.
Good deal?

Well $400 would certainly be a good price if it is all GI with a sound barrel, servicable parts and a small amount of rust that hasn't gone to pitting. Rust always means neglect to one degree or another so it is wise to look a little deeper.

Price would also depend on whether it is all orginal or whether it has had a post war rebuild done to it (Bayonet lug and adjustable rear sight).

The 5 round mag is not USGI either.

Can you tell us the make and do you have any pics to show? That always helps as well.

Absolutely.....check the condition of the piston to see if it still functions or if there is any rust there either.
