I have the chance to buy an AVERAGE quality M1 Garand for $350. Is this a good deal? Comes with 8rnd clips. I have absolutly no idea what they are worth

The price for a field grade M1 Garand, 4-5 on the throat erosion gauge and feeds reliably, is probably in the neighborhood of $600 these days.

As I recall throat erosion guaged at 6 is no longer considered competative for CMP purposes so that is something to consider. There are replacement barrels out there in the neighborhood of $250 to $350 if you are so inclined to get her back to competative condition.

I think you're OK with a $350 Garand. I certainly would not hesitate on that rifle if I were in the market for one. If anything else you'll have a nice plinker.

perfect! That's all I want 'er for .. a plinker! And if I get something better, then I guess its my good fortune! Now to come up with the cash quick before someone else finds this gem!!!!

:D

For $350 it's not likely in 'average' condition, unless the guy doesn't know what he's about. I've seen 'poor' condition M1's at gun shows with a nearly $800 price tag. Not that they sold at that. An average condition M1 retails at just over $800.
Snap it up.

Father talked to one of his friends and mentioned I was in the market for an M1. Nice old guy with no one to pass on his guns too, and doing something nice for his friends kid me thinks :)

I will certainly take a look at it before I lay down the cash though!

bah, M1 prices have inflated drastically in the last few years, I dare say worse than any other milsurps. I'd still venture that 4 to 500 is ballpark for an M1, away from CGN. We're our own worst nightmare that way...

So, buy it and sell it on here for $800! Someone will jump on it, because everyone and their dog is asking twice that for a beat up Italian garand...Yes, I'm bitter, but you should still buy it!
