Price check....Mas 36

I paid $750 for a Mas 36/51 at a gun show a couple years ago. It was basically new condition, factory refurbished I assume. The last few I've seen have been selling for more than that. Some through dealers going for over 1k.

The one I sold was for $500 or $600. No sense in keeping it. The back sight is a fixed unit on the tangent arm. The front sight is a solid welded post (might even be forged into the barrel). The only way to get it to hit paper would have been to find a selection of arsenal back sight parts and start swapping. Firing whatever French or Syrian ammo I could find wasn't making me happy. So off it went.

600-1200$. Many Mas 36 and Mas 36/51 are in VG+ condition thanks to the excellent French refurbishment programs and lack of surplus ammo (which helps prevent modern shooters from wearing them out).

I have no knowledge when it comes to French arms...how does one tell if it's a factory refurb as opposed to being unissued?

I don't think they made any new markings on the rifles to show that they were refurbished, however you can pretty much assume you will be looking at a refurb and not an unissued rifle, which would be very rare, and pricey. From what I've seen, the French did an excellent job refurbishing, and they look damn near new.

Prvi makes ammo and brass. Lee makes dies. One pass through the die with 6.5x55 brass makes 7.5x54. My 36/51 was the most accurate milsurp ive had i regret parting with it. Id love another one but not at those prices. Not sure if they still have them, but i able to get the correct rear sight from numrich. Its actually a rather smart system as once its sighted it stays sighted and cant be fiddled with.
