I was just wondering what a fair price would be for a Winchester 1897 with a repro trench gun heat shield with a bayonet. I am not sure if the bayonet is real or repro but for the sake of argument, let's say it's repro. I am also not sure of the year of the 1897 but I do know it is a real one and not a copy.

By the way, I am the potential buyer not the seller. I am trying to figure out if it would be cheaper to buy one or build one.

Thanks all.

I wouldn't go higher than $500 for a repro, in really good condition.

I got an 1897 takedown that had the barrel shortened and had been tuned for cowboy-action shooting (lots of replacement parts, mixmaster gun) for $350 not that long ago. Once you start tinkering and modding these guns, the collector value is gone.

You can get the 1897's with the barrel cut to the right length (cowboy action guns, like mine) for $300-$400. And then a repro heatshield and bayo can be sourced for under $200 if you look around. Not a difficult conversion.
