sentimental value adds nothing to the price judging by your comments you have a predetermined value which is off the mark it is a 800$-100o $ gun that's reality
as for a browning bps being more desired that's way of the mark
that's a personal preference

How is the BPS a better gun? I've owned them both and like them.

I can see the BPS tang safety as a plus, but albeit a small one. Otherwise I'd have a hard time choosing one over the other.
 
Better is a subjective term. A late 80’s or 90’s Illion-made wingmaster with VR and remchoke is likely equal to a BPS in every way that matters, as are the early Ithaca 37’s with nicer finishes, and most any model 12.
