I am going to look at a Mk.II for a project. Pre-accutrigger model with synthetic stock. I am planning on using the action only and installing a short Shilen 77/22 barrel along with a new stock to make a budget tackdriver.

What are the original Savage synthetic stock and barrel worth, if anything, as used parts?

I was thinking the same thing, around $20-$25 in good condition.

The Savage Mk.II, Ruger 77/22 and 10/22 all use a slip fit into the receiver with a pin to retain the barrel. The Savage receiver bore is slightly smaller than the 77/22 and 10/22, so a Ruger barrel needs to be turned down by a small amount to fit the Savage. The guys doing this swap are using a Loctite product to glue the barrel in place, rather than use the pin method.

My plan is to buy one of the pre-chambered Shilen heavy barrels (0.920" OD) for the 77/22 from Mystic Precision (site sponsor, see banner ads) and install it into the Savage receiver. Barrel length will be 16". The 77/22 barrel has 2 extractor grooves the same as the Savage and should require very minimal machining to fit properly. My goal is to get a cheap(ish) rifle with a short, heavy, high quality aftermarket barrel that shoots bug holes if I do my part.
