A guy at work has a About 1930 Winchester model 70 in some rare .300 calibre. He says it"s worth over $3500. It's not for sale I was just wondering if he is full of sh*t or are they really worth that much?
thx

First model 70 was late 30's, I beleive 1937 or 39... I have one in 30- Gov't. 06. Been offered obscene amounts of $ for it. Nice rifles, the early ones... mine was more or less a gift from a friend who's father had it on the wall for years and I used to drool over it. It is a real good shooter and I've been told was a Marine sniper rifle from WW2. I don't have the scope but you can see were it was mounted. Always a nice find and they look fantastic on the wall. Stateside they are highly collectable. check out Gun broker and you'll see what they can go for.

Probably a 300 H&H magnum as to the value there were different grades of condition the rifle may be in New Unfired but this I highly doubt will get the top dollar as to pricing every one thinks that there old rifle is a collector's item and hence the sometimes absurb and astronomical prices

Sounds like lunch room bs to me... ;)

Had a look at Gun broker... not a pre 64 on there for under $1350 US, the earlier you get, the more they climb. $3500 US is well within the reach of an early pre 64 on the US market... the value is what you actually get for a rifle in my opinion but the asking prices give you an idea.

There are guys with money that go nuts for early Winchseter 70's, just like any other collectors.

I have a few nice toys but the one that I get the most offers on is always that pre 64 Winchester hanging over my desk... somebody obviously knows something I don't...

Edit>>> desk is in my home gun room... I'll fire up a pic if I ever get my home computor running again. They are nice looking old rifles.
