Price Check: Springfield Garand

That's kinda like asking "how much for a used car". However, prices in Alberta that I've seen are around 5-800 for a "shooter"- that is, a rifle with something less than desirable to a collector such as mismatched everything, shot out barrel, poor condition. Gotta pay for the good stuff

The market price is probably between $400 and $800. The low side for a very ordinary mixture of USGI and Italian-made parts on a rifle as sold by the Danish and resold by Alan Lever et al. The high side would be for a 100% matched (ie only Italian parts in a Breda or Beretta, and only USGI parts in a WIN, SA, HRA or IHC) and in good shape. The HRA and IHC guns are scarcest and they were in Canada before the flood.

Your SA is the largest production volume of any maker, so for $600 I would want to see no Danish serial number on the stock or bolt, no gouged or oil soaked wood, but still properly USGI marked, and a US barrel not a Danish VAR or Italian BMB or BMR barrel.

Is this unreasonable? No. There are thousands of Garands in Canada.

I've purchased 3 from here in the last month and paid no higher than $650 shipped. I've got an IHC, SA and a Breda. All in various condition and came
w/ extras like buttstock tools, clips and bandoliers. I'd say this is the best place on the net a Canadian get one for a fair market price too.

Bought it :)

Yep its a Springfield Armory (not the Inc)

Serial number is 528 ###X so i think its post war.

Stripped and cleaned today (5 hours of elbow grease) the inside is in good condition, the outside is a bit on the shiny side, and the barrel bore came up bright, but the bore looks a little worn. It came with a few hundred rounds so its off to the range tomorrow to see how it shoots.

Thanks for the price check feed back.

Yep, post WWII.

Thompson references the last SA made in June 45 with serial number 3,875,601.

The Satndard Catalog of Military Firearms lists the value of a SA Garand in your serial number range as $650 in good condition to $450 in poor condition. This is in the US market. And oddly enough we seem to be headed that way as well.

Bought an M1 Garand at a yard sale

This is the M1 i picked up at a yard sale on Saturday in Fort McMurray.

It cleaned up OK all it needs is a couple of swivels and some new pins, its not grouping very well, i think its the loose fit between the gas tube and barrel and some barrel bore wear, but for the price i paid i think its still a good deal.
