for a friend who recently acquired a very good condition Winchester mod 64 in 32 special with 2-3 boxes of ammo
works flawlessly. Unknown DOM atm I don't have the serial but will get it later.
some flaking on the finish and blue maybe 75% overall in great shape, nice bright bore
any idea of a fair value ?

thanks

Pictures needed and also date of manufacture. (serial number helpful.)

If pre-1964, it will have some decent value, depending on actual condition.
If post-1964, with cast steel follower and walnut stocks, with okay factory fit and finish, probably half as much, as a guess. (They made some model 64s after 1964, as I recall.)

Update Edit:

According to research, the Model 64 ceased production in 1957, and was available in the Model 1894 calibers of both
.30-30 and .32 Special.

It was resurrected briefly ONLY in 1971-72, and ONLY in .30-30.

So, your .32 Special must be a 1957 or earlier specimen of Model 64, meaning that it would have some decent value.

My brother-in-law has a late 1950s Model 64.
As I recall, it has a blued steel butt-plate, as did the 1894's back then.

The post-1964 94's and 64's all had plastic butt-plates, except the commemoratives.
So, if your rifle has a steel butt-plate that would confirm it as a 1957 or earlier one.

Yet Another Update Edit:

I found a listing.

Winchester Model 64, Standard Grade Rifle (No Checkering)
Circa 1951
Caliber .30 WCF (.30-30)
Minor bluing loss.
Oil finished stock in very nice condition.
With Lyman all-steel Model 56 peep sight and sling swivels.
Described as in 88% overall condition.

Price $1188.00 USD

Based on this, your rifle is in lesser condition, but it gives you some idea of the value.
Obviously there are many variables, however.

The 64 Winchesters do not command the prices they should here in Canada. Unless real minty they seem to go for around $700 selling price, asking prices are a different story. Those chambered in .32 Special bring less then the .30/30 as well. There are a couple on the EE now and they are slow movers in general. The version produced in the early 70's was marked Model 64A so easy to tell the difference. That being said they are a great woods rifle with much better balance for offhand shooting than the carbine.

As usual Mike you are right on the nose, I was about to say 5-800 range without photos and yes the US prices are usually about 30-50% higher depending on the model and condition. I bought the NRA commemorative as a hunting lever gun, which is a copy of the 64 and quite nicely put together with decent wood and good bluing. I was impressed with the rifle when I got my hands on it.
