Price Check: WW2 dated French MAS 36

If one was trying to find a ww2 production MAS 36, what sort of price ranges are to be expected these days for collection grade pieces?

Also: When it comes to the MAS rifle, can anyone suggest a good book that might give me an overall history with lots of photos?

Value, well most of the MAS 36 rifles I have seen are likely refurbs or have been "cleaned" up by bubba. Allot of them have frosted bores, or dark bores, pitting of some sort, etc. Matching serial numbers are a another problem. Most are all well used. Price ranges around $200 for a poor cond to $450 for near mint (if you can find one).

I agree with the above post.

I have only seen a few but the price remains low mainly from the fact most have been modified by bubba arsenal and ammo takes a bit to find/manufacture.

Granted the gents at the gun show will have you convinced otherwise
 
Can anyone suggest a good book that might help me get up to speed so I know what i'm looking for when trying to find full military configs?

I can't seem to find a good MAS book with a lot of photos and identification help.

910 - LA GRANDE AVENTURE DES FUSILS REGLEMENTAIRES FRANCAIS 1866 -1936:

The continuation of the previous book. All French military long-arms from 1866 to 1936. From the Chassepot to the MAS 36 going through the "Tabatieres", Gras, Kropatschek, Lebel and Berthier rifles, the bayonets, the cartridges... Entirely illustrated. A must for all French or Military rifles collectors. Soft cover. 12"X 8 1/2". 97 pages.

Original early MAS 36 rifles are hard to find, the majority floating around are post WW2.
On Pre 1945 Model the front sight protector will be opened like on an Enfield SMLE, middle barrel band sling swivel is a fixed bar type as opposed to the moveable Post WW2 ring type, also rearsight is different in appearance also. Buttstock will have a cartouche stamp with Arsenal and date of manufacture.
 
I got one on Collector's Source a couple months ago, 1939 dated. Paid 495.00$. This was only the second MAS 36 that I saw in maybe the last 5-6 years. The first one was a grenade-launching 36/51. Pretty hard to find....

I have a late 40's MAS and it is a nice little gun to shoot but suck to sight in. The sights are adjusted by replacing the rear sight aperture. Mine shoots about a foot and a half to the left at 100 yards.

I don't think they are a gun you don't see around around much.

If I were to sell mine, I would not let it go for under $500 and if it was WW2 dated, I would not sell it.
 
I also have one of these. Shoots cast bullets into an inch or so at 50yds. Unfortunately about 4" to the right of Point of Aim. Rear aperture is drilled noticeably off center to the right. I've thought about having the hole filled and redrilled. Anyone know of a source for correct sight. I've seen one or two of these rifles at shows/auctions but all rear sites where drilled off center. Hoping to find one that was centered. I'm guessing that would bring me very close to POA being POI with my cast load. Mine is a M1936 with an excellant bore. Rear site has excellant elevation adjustment. Some where I have a copy of the armourer's chart showing which site blade to make necessary corrections at given distances.
