Bonjour Alec,
Voici un compte rendu de mes coûts de rechargement (j'le ferai en anglais pour nos amis anglophone aussi...) (Here's a cost rundown in English for our Anglophone friends too...):
1000 primers: $26
1000 lead bullets: $36
Powder for 1000: $15
1000 brass: Free
Total for 1000 rounds of lead ammo loaded w/3.7gr of Bullseye: $77.00
Firing rounds you reloaded yourself and finding out they are more accurate in your gun than commercially available ammo: PRICELESS!!
Bullet costs may vary quite a bit, I get mine through a friend who knows someone who casts bullets on the side, so they're pretty economical. I've seen lead cast bullets at Russel Sports in Calgary go for about $55/1000 and if you want to shoot jacketed, then they start around $75/1000 I think. Even at that price, it still ends up being about half the cost of commercial stuff.
The above powder cost is based on 1lb (7000 grains) of Bullseye costing me $28 last time I picked some up. At 3.7 grains per round, you get almost 2000 rounds per lb.
9mm brass is very common where I am, so I am lucky, I can pick it up for free. I use anything from range pickup brass, to once fired brass left behind at the range that's free for the taking. If you have a good tumbler, cleaning up dirty brass is easy!
Last time I bought commercial reloads, it cost me roughly $200/1000 rounds delivered to my door. So it's a fairly substantial savings.
I just bought a complete progressive set up for 9mm (including extras like bullet puller, tumbler etc.) for around $500. I'll probably recover my costs in 12 to 18 months. I won't save money, but I'll shoot a lot more!
Prend soin de toi, amuses toi bien et bon rechargement, Alec!
