Looking at Milsurp EE prices lately I am gobsmacked by the prices. What happened in the last 12 months that made old surplus rifles triple and quadruple in value? I am almost afraid to take my "shooter" PU (a Molot TULA, the cosmetically most challenged of the one's I got) out to shoot again. The way prices are going it must be worth $2,000+ .
I just don't get it. New guys have money to burn? Or am I just stuck Fudd world. These price changes are over a year not 5-10. Boggles my mind.
Am I deluded to think there is not going to be some buyer's remorse in the next 12 months at these prices or is the same economic model as $1,000,000 Vancouver fixer upper bungalows. Or maybe it's all just "funny money".

Congratulations on your investments outperforming the bond market! Maybe sell a couple and re-invest in crypto or tech stocks.

Everything is coming together (or falling apart, depending on your point of view) at the same time.

There are more collectors but far less surplus rifles available.

The value of the currency is falling MUCH faster than the official rate. If you are like a lot of poor people and reckon the value of your money in pounds of hamburger, it has lost about 40% in the last year. The official figure is less than 1/10 that...... but fuel and food are deliberately EXCLUDED from the calculations.

TAXES are the fastest way to SLOW DOWN an economy.... and Government at all levels is piling them on faster than many of us can keep track. Provincial sales taxes and the hated, illegal GST are held down because you SEE those...... but the UNSEEN taxes are piling up and there are new ones being invented all the time. Gasoline in coastal BC is up to just about $8 a gallon, yet the actual price of crude oil has NOT risen to that extreme; it is about the same as it was when fuel was a third the price we are paying today.

The difference is TAXES. In my opinion, Government at all levels, ESPECIALLY the Federal level, is TRYING to destroy the Canadian Dollar. What they will replace it with is anyone's guess..... perhaps the new Chinese Gold Yuan. After all, infrastructure in this country is falling apart, but OUR tax money is being invested in the CHINESE Infrastructure Bank!

Buy what you can and hide it!

Been collecting long enough to remember 15 years ago people lamenting the same thing. I may have even complained about 400 dollar enfields and 700 dollar garands because that is twice what I ever paid. ''You never pay too much, you just buy too early''.

I really developed an interest for milsurps at the wrong time (2021). I was just looking up prices. $1000+ Lee Enfield's, $2,000 Mausers and K31's, $3000 Garands and worst of all......$500 Mosin's.

Are there many sub-$500 milsurps that are still a good purchase? I'm aware some Lee Enfield's can be had for cheaper, but less than $500?

They ain't makin no more '28 Mosins .. and the one's that are "new finds" are the worst of what was there when the salvers went looking .. so increased demand, no supply. I agree with prev posts here .. global money supply has at least doubled in the last 18 months .. none of it based on productivity or increase in assets so, just as in pre war europe, you have wheelbarrows of "new" money chasing a limited supply of goods .. we see inflation in real estate, used autos (who'da thunk a car you bought last year, drove for a year is worth more now??), slight increases in gold / silver (can't figure that out), surge in pretend money (fart coin etc), as people move out of traditional money. Even with a contracted economy, stocks have held value .. why? - because at least some are based on asset/earnings .. bonds perhaps not so much.

Anyway .. that's what I think I remember from SFU.
Cheers.

I personally believe we are in a bubble for milsurp prices. We have gotten to the point where it isn't even condition based. People are just buying because one has come up and are paying the same price for a low end example (mismatched, poor condition, 'desporterized' etc.) as they wood for a high end example (matching, VG+ condition, etc.). Most collectors I know aren't buying anymore unless a very specific firearm they have been looking for comes up. Personally I have only bought 3 firearms in the last 2 years for my collection, which is next to nothing in comparison to what I used to do. Odds are I won't buy another this year unless something comes up at a really good price or it is one of the rare items I have been looking for.

Might not be today. Might not be tomorrow, but at some point I think the prices are going to correct, likely around the same time the housing market does.

When i first saw the SKS-D at Checkmate, i was sold, inexpensive and cool.

Then Lever and Marstar sold Izzy and Yugo also nice BNIB Chinese SKS. They were so cheap you could buy 3 a year, well i do add up. I luv my SKS's. JP.

Want to increase the value of your milsurp? Dewat it. Like the MP 40 on E.E. for 6 grand, Yes, you read that right $6,000!

I know, I was counting the zeros also, to make sure I got it right.

I guess the question would be if the guns are actually selling at those prices , or are they just sitting , and not moving . Even if something is marked sold , did it actualy sell for asking price , or did the seller take less . Even with auction prices , it is hard to know as people could be bidding up their own merchandise in hpoes of getting higher prices .

Prices are definitely going up. I think it is due to people having the money to spare. We aren’t spending it on vacations to Disney or a resort down south so the money is spent on something else. Take the home renovation projects. A lot of stuff is back ordered due to increased demand. Last fall I bought a few extra guns due extra work from home renovations. People are taking their trip and vacation money and buy other things. Me I bought more guns and a new car. My work has actually increased during COVID. More people buying means you get a better price if your selling.

If you want full military rifles, the only two sub $500 rifles I can think of are SKSs (not for long) and Carcanos (good luck finding clips and ammo though).

I grabbed an SKS years ago when they were still $200.

Now i'm looking for a quality (surplus) bolt action, think I'm going to go for a Yugo or Swedish Mauser. What price range should I be looking at for those?
