price of S&W Model 10

Is there much of a market for them? My father is considering turning his pair in during this amnesty because they became prohibited when the laws changed and while he's grandfathered he can't pass them on to me.

Plus the cheapo camera is worth more than he paid for them (about 90 beans, but that was more than 20 years ago afaik)

Condition and details are needed. So far, $50 to $500.
Got any pictures?
Even prohib ones will fetch good money in excellent condition or a rare configuration.

Mark-II,

Please, don't send the gun to the smelter for a camera... if they're in half decent shape, I'll give him a camera for them... Just PM me.

To the OP, it's about condition and barrel length.

They're just bog standard police surplus that he bought for my brother and myself ages ago. It's the short bbl length that did them in. Nothing terribly special and well used.

If it works and isn't too worn, a 4" barrel square butt model 10 will still fetch $150 pretty quickly even on the EE. I paid more for a good round butt version, and more still for a decent example with a heavy barrel. About double that for one in round butt and 2" barrel. All bog standard police issue / surplus.

If there's a camera involved, I hope it's worth more than $150.

Countless thousands of these have already gone to the smelter. A number of agencies decided to destroy them instead of selling them. Good on Winnipeg that they tried to get their taxpayers a bit of value back. Literally millions of model 10s were made, and there are many, many thousands of model 10s in private Canadian hands. Yeah, with a 4" barrel they'll go to the smelter one day, maybe. If we all just sit around and moan.

Oh yes, and don't forget: if these are your dad's last 12(6) guns, he loses his ability to buy 12(6)s. No big deal as long as there's nothing in the 12(7) category that you or your brother might want... 'cause once he can't buy it, you can't have it. Just a thought.

Get your Dad to pick up a Nazi marked PPK, those you can inherit and if you don't want one, I'm available for adoption. As far as the M10's go, you could have them rebarelled. Despite their lack of value, they are amazingly accurate and fun to shoot with cheap wadcutter match loads.
