I have been thinking about getting a tactical rimfire rifle. I have a spare 10/22 kicking around and am wondering which choice you would recommend - "tacticool" it up or buy an SR-22?

Thanks.

Depends, really, on if you like the SR-22's look (b/c if you do, why try to duplicate what's already there?); if you're not liking the SR-22's looks, mod-up the 10/22 to your liking!.....:)

x2 ... buy the SR22 if you like it. Making a 10-22 into an SR is going to be costly, time consuming and prone to difficulties (unforeseen now).
If you want to tinker with a rifle, learn a lot about them and want to have a "done it yourself" satisfaction, buy the cheapest 10-22 and have at it....

There are many ways of doing this and of course it depends if you want looks or accuracy.

If you want a SR-22, sell the 10/22 and buy a SR-22.

Put a nice stock on your 10/22, I got the archangel kit online for under $150 US including shipping to Canada.

Buy a tapco kit or something else you like.

The "problem" right now with all the SR-22 hype going on, you want one sooner or later.

:D

If you want to be one of the six guys at any givin time at the range with a SR-22, thats cool:nest:
You may want to buy an Sr-22 and change up a couple parts, but if you want somthing different.., do it yourself IMO is the way to go, if you act quick Dan Hawktecharms may have a few Nordic kits avail shipped to your door for $169. Tell him Ronkytonk sent you dan@hawktecharms.com

Turning a 1022 into a SR would cost the same, really. I have done it.., including the rifle for under $600.

This one was a little more but worth every penny...

What does the nordic kit come with?

Its who Ruger contracted to do the SR22's, Its a three piece stock that fits over the receiver so you can fit any AR parts to it.

So what AR pieces do you need after to make it function?

If I have a 10/22 receiver, trigger group and barrel, what else will need to buy?

Yeah, I believe you. Your quote:
I have been collecting parts for almost a year now, these are all the pieces in one shot.

You're not the only one ever to pimp out a 10/22, mind you...you did an excellent job. The complications are easier to avoid for someone with experience, but for a first-timer they create a learning curve that might or might not come cheap.

Buttstock, handgaurd, and grip., the rest is up to however you want to make it look,
such as sights, scope, grips, lazers, cannons, the kitchen sink...

P.S. be sure to us the EE on here,
you can get Buttstock, handgaurd, and grip all for under $80.

True that it may help to be more experienced, but thats where we come in on CGN to help the not so experienced. Also I belive the 1022 is by far the eaisest rifle to work on, hell I have a harder time loading the diswasher.

So in saying that if you guys just want somthing fast go and buy the SR22 (not that there is anything wrong with the SR22, its a sweet unit) or what ever out of the box tacticool .22 there is.

If you want somthing that you can take some pride on building,.. do it yourself, I guess some guys just want to shoot now, but guys like me,.. I find it much more gratifying to build it than even to shoot it.

Happy Shooting :p

I'm of the opinion that the 10/22 is one of the most modular, outfitable rifles made. Half the fun of those rifles is customizing them into something that is unique to your tastes.

I would rather modify a basic 10/22.

Well said Ronky...I totally agree.
It's a lot like a vehicle.
Some like to drive them like they stole it, straight off the lot.
Some like to take old ones, ugly ones or beaters and build them into a thing of beauty for show...... and go.
