I have to say that appears like one hell of a deal compared to what retailers are asking up here. Easy to export to Canada to through a few certain Canadian dealers, why pay 3 times plus for the same rifle. $549

Any thoughts?

IRUNGUNS have had similar or better rifles for sale already for similar prices....that $549 was after mail in rebate of $50.
Couple months ago they had PSA midlength with stainless barrels for $699. DPMS 16" carbines for $529, and you can still get a colt 6920 for under $1000 through them.
Bushmaster and DPMS are owned by Remington so mass production = mass sales = lower prices. Decent guns, but I would still take the Colt at a few hundred $$ more as the better "bargain".

oh I agree, but why the price hike up here in Canada?

The whole US market is flooded with AR. They aren't selling, plain and simple. There was a buying frenzy in the US do to the purposed gun legislation Obama was going to bring in. So US manufactures ramped up production because of high demand. So now that no new gun legislation has gone through everyone stopped buying. All the manufactures have surpluses of rifles so they are blowing them out.

It will cost you $200 to import that gun via Irungun.
After importing fee and conversion rate it will cost you around $900 CAD for that gun.
So it is roughly 30% cheaper than the ones that Canadian retailers sell and not 60%.

Same reason a can of 335 ml of Coke sells for $1, but for 99 cents more you can buy a 2 litre bottle.

First of all there is the volume discount, US export permit is only good for 50 rifles at a time, all manufacturer's requires payment up front, so Canadian retailers can never order enough rifles to qualify for the volume discount like any of the larger retail chains in the U.S..

Any manufacturer wants to export their product outside of the country they must be register with the US State Dept. which cost a few thousand dollars a year, which get added to the unit price for all foreign sales and finally Customs Brokerage fee and secure shipper for getting the product across the Canadian border.

These cost can add up pretty quick!
