Hey Peeps,
Looking for some info on the Primary Arms 3-18x50 scope, if any of you own or have had an opportunity get behind this scope can you post some thoughts on the clarity, eyebox, is it picky about perfect position to avoid optical darkening at low or high power?
Also, I see nothing online, but does it have locking turrets (YES) or zero stop? (NO) How are turrets?
(edit: emailed them and heard back, locking turrets, no zero stop)
Im thinking of either this or the 4-24 strike eagle. Both are on the border of decently low weight for a target style scope that crosses over into a hiking/hunting practical item (weight wise) it seems. Having a good eye box at low power is important to me for quick shots versus bench shots.
I like that the PA scope is fairly light at about 26 oz and has decent looking turrets, the reticle seems to be its biggest pro. But the strike eagle has a good magnification range and its hard to beat its reviews and warranty. They are in very close design/price bracket and are essentially direct competition. Similar mag and weight.
Basically Im building a bolt action 6.5CM, carbon six barrel, lefty 788 and custom stock, wanting to do both mountain and prairie hunting for smaller ungulates, have my pronghorn tag coming up this year and I should really get out for a sheep. I use a 9.3x62 for thicker bush hunting mostly in northern AB at present (elk/moose/deer).
