It's pretty safe to assume that more magnification means less forgiving eye relief.

Eye relief is a bit limited but I haven't had any issues with the 3x. The 5x is very interesting especially at that price.

5x will not have better eye relief then 3x.

I hear people complain about the 3x, but in my experience it's not much of an issue as long as you don't mind the reduction in sight picture as you move further away. I find that the shadow on the outside of the eyepiece can be used like a ghost ring to center your eye and after that just focus on the chevron and target.

It's pretty easy for me to use the 3x with both eyes open and if needed once on target close my left eye.

The one thing I wish Primary Arms would do with these optics is figure out how to incorporate some flip up caps. I like caps for protecting the lenses but also it's a good way to turn a 3X prism optic into a 1X red dot by simply turning on the illumination and capping the objective lens and using both eyes project the reticle on to the target.... works well on my burris 3x prism that came with caps.

^way too many optics don't have ability to use proper caps. It's a big pet peeve of mine.
