Howdy Folks,

I have a RCBS RockChucker IV press and I'm finally fed up with dealing with the crappy primer catcher that came with my press.

I've seen some that direct the primers into a tube and a catch bottle and they look pretty slick! My google-fu led me to a few outfits that 3D print assemblies to accomplish this. However, every one I found ended up being near $100 with the shipping, and that was before tax and import!

So I come seeking knowledge and experience of either a place that sells and ships for reasonable prices, or homemade options that I can do myself, without a 3D printer :rolleyes:

Any help is always appreciated!

I will be following this with interest as I have the exact same problem.
 
I don't really mind it, I have a square 5 gallon bucket beneath the press and I use a brush to clean out the press after I remove the primer catcher. Not perfect but not a $100 problem for me.
 
Just put a mild compression spring between the press and the primer catcher. The catcher stays against the ram and won't miss any more primers.

Looks like I better do some cleanup and maintenance on that press... :(

I've seen some where they use a piece of foam where you have your spring, or a small screw.

I gave up years ago, even with the Plastic RCBS primer catcher (held on by rubber band), it still moves. 1 out of 5 hits the cup, the rest go on the floor.. I have resigned to getting a cheap dollar store magnet and just run over carpet to pick them up. I only use the LEE decapping die ($15)for all my decapping operations, which does cause primer to eject more forcibly. Since I got this Die from LEE, I am no longer breaking factory die decappers, as a matter of fact, I have removed all decapping pins from all die sets.

Sent you a private message. I have access to a 3D printer and there are a few designs out there.

No. The one I have is not identical to the one pictured, but it's simply a catch basin.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand how for som people many (even most) primers are hitting the floor. Practiclaly none of mine miss the basin, although in removing and emptying it, I have had a couple fall out on occassion.

The factory primer catcher in question doesn't stay against the ram and because of that primers don't always make it into the catcher. Mine hasn't missed one since I added the spring. I got the spring out of my junk drawer, it was free. :)
 
Those 3d printer parts work amazingly well. Download the file, go to your publi library and 3d print it there.

My floor is clean. But I paid 25 bucks.

I just cut a couple of slots in the rear "legs",use an elastic band around the back of the press to hold it in place,no primers on the floor.
 
Take a ball of tape or something and plug the hole in the ram at the level where you would insert the priming arm if you primed on the press. Take the ram out. (1 allen key in bottom, slide pin out with thumb pull ram out the top) spin the ram 180 and re install.
Your primers are now ejected about 3/4" higher and are pretty much guaranteed to actually make it into the primer catcher. Takes about 5 mins and costs 0$$
you just can't prime on the press any more.
