Primer Choices for 270

I'm looking for some options for my 270 Win. I've been using standard Winchester Large Rifle but want to try some other kinds. I once read that some magnum primers would also work well in a 270. I currently have some CCI Magnum primers that I bought for my 350 Rem Mag. Would these work? I also have some Winchester Large Rifle Magnum primers. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mag primers can be used for the 270 but charges should be worked up again after any component change.

You don't need magnum primers just because the cartridge is called a magnum. Magnum primers are for lighting hard to ignite powders and cold weather shooting. They're about the powder, not the cartridge.
You don't need them for a .270 either. If your accuracy is good, think in terms of Rule Number One. If it works, don't fix it.
Like 303carbine says, change any one component and you'll have to work up the load again.

I generally use magnum primers for the slower powder loads. Somewhere around WW760/IMR4350 speed and slower.

I used some in my 22/250 today with IMR 4350 and a 60gr Partition.

seems currently primers are in such short supply that it doesn't matter. Just buy lots of what you can find and stick with it.

I found fed mAGNUM primers worked better in both the 270's Ive loaded for.

It's funny, everyone keeps saying that the Federal Magnums are so hard to find but I keep finding them. Hell, I keep finding Federal Magnum Match. Things you find when you're not looking.

You're lucky, the only primers we get here in NB are WW. I stock up at every opportunity.

I have several thousand and yes I use mag primers in everything if it's going to be shot in -10 or colder.Many noted gunwriters also use mag primers .It's worked for me for 40 years .....................Harold * Win mags are the hotest,then Fed and CCI

WLR are reputed to be the hottest of the regular primers. I use CCI magnum primers with H4831 in my .270 Win because I hunt in sub-zero conditions.Same for any hunting load with ball powder.

If the load does not call for magnum primers, then you do not need them. Almost all standard loads for the 270 Win designate standard primers and will not benefit from a Magnum primer. WLR and CCI standard have always produced MOI accuracy and acceptable pressures in my 270s. If still in doubt, Doublecheck your sources!
