Hey Everyone
I have question about primers.I collect my brass at the range for reloading (hand guns) I quite often end up with other peoples brass. Some of the primers are a brass color as apposed to the silver color I reload with. Are these new once fired brass or are there brass colored reload primers I am not aware of.

Not a good indicator of use, colour is up to the manufacturer as far as i know. I wouldn`t use primer colour as a judge of new or reload. If i pick it up at the range it`s all treated the same when i process it cause it wasn`t fired in my firearm.
 
as said, primer color is not an indication of use ( once fired or not). You might want to look more closely at the brass for scrapes etc. I figure "scrounged" brass is always been shot a few times before I get it.
 
Winchester used plated (silver) primers for years then went to plain brass. Different brands uses different types, doesn't matter.

Chamfered and deburred case necks are usually a give away of a reload.
 
Thanks for the info as it turns out I do have some winchester primers in brass
So I will just scrutinize them a little more before I decide to use them
 
Watch out for crimped primer pockets in mil-spec brass. Soluble in reloading but you have to remove the crimp before repriming. Several different methods.
