Gday,
Ive been noticing, the last few shots from the 35Whelen that my primers have changed shape...

At first, for a long while since i did load development the Primers had been flatten compared to a freshly primed case... which i was happy about an new the loads were gettin close to hot but no sticky ejection so all good.

Now it seems my primers are not flattening out an some seem to be lifting 0.001 (SFA) from where they were previously seated.
Hopefully these pics will give yas some idea of what im sayin..

any theories?

cheers
WL

anythin to worry about?

NOTE: it seems to be since going from resized .270win stamped cases to orig .35Whelen stamped cases (all Remington)

Pics will come soon, blutooth seems to not wanna play the game

Loads are still the same, 55gr of 2208 with 225gr woodleigh rn.

Check your over-all case length. It could be now that you have changed to a .35 Whelen case the case mouth is actually protruding a little bit into the bore and causing a bit of over-pressure.With a hot load the case mouth could expand into the bore and restrict the bullet causing over-pressure and back out the primer.

I've kept my case lengths all within 2.483-2.485 so all my loads are close to bein all the same.

would you say temperature is an issue? as since i last shot its gotten well into spring now an temps are slightly warmer?

are you guys sayin the primers are out due to a "blow" back of some sort?

cheers

Your .270 case is originally meant for a .277 cal bullet when you re size you are thinning the case wall. When you take a .35 Whelen case that was made for a .358 cal bullet you are not reworking the brass as much and you could have a difference of more than a few thousands of a inch.Just my thoughts since I haven't personally reloaded this combo.Any one else have anything to help this guy out?

yeah cheers for your help, i just thought it was interesting an would ask the question. shes still shootin great, an im not sure of FPS, extraction is sweet just the primers are different.

Someone will come along with an answer soon enough :)

Cheers

Powder

If you are using 1 lb. containers of powder, are the lot numbers the same? Different lot numbers of the same powder, can generate higher/ lower pressures. Just a thought.

sounds like the case capacity is different..what was once a hot load might have cooled off a bit with the different case capacity. the only time i have ever had primers back out on me that was the case. make 2 loads the same one with 35 cases and one with the 270 case. go shoot and check. my guess is problem solved or i mean mystery

Yeah strange one, its same bottle of powder so no drama there,
anyway i wont let it worry me.. no time to worry, worry when im sleepin.. lol
