Hi guys, I'm starting to load now after years of saying "yeah, I should start doing that". My problem is, I'm working with some offshore .223 brass, south african, pmc, and I think IVI? Primer pockets seem very tight, I measured my once fired Win brass at .173 or so, but my cheapo stuff measures .169-170. Win seems to seat ok, but I mashed a couple primers before I measured the other stuff. I will order a pocket reamer, but I just want to know exactly what size and depth are small/ large rifle primer pockets supposed to be? Thanks in advance

if your going to use military brass buy a rcbs primer pocket swage. your lucky that crimped brass didn't cause a primer to go off. that will wake you up, i know from experiance

no crimped brass yet

havent done any crimped brass yet, I know I need a reamer/swage for that...
some of it looks like it may have kind of a circular crimp, like a groove pressed around the primer. The Winchester brass I tried presses in pretty tight with a .173 hole, of course I don't know how tight they are supposed to be, as these are my first tries. Anyone know the proper dimension, or could mike the pocket on a piece of good brass? Thanks guys, CGN rocks! :D

P.S.
Anyone have a good load for a mini 14 with a 10" twist barrel? I've got 748, 760 and Varget, with 50-53-55 grn hornady's. Bout to start workin up a load once I get this primer thing straight, then it's on to the .270

k, just an update here:
I just finished priming 50 rounds of .270 (large rifle primers), it was waaay easier. I have a problem with my brass obviously, so I'll order away for the reamer and twiddle my thumbs till it gets here. Well, ok, I'll work on a load for the .270. And maybe fix my bike. Get out of the house for awhile. Yeah. Sure. ;)
